PT Pertamina EP Limau Field showcased its excellence as a leading and influential organization with its spectacular win at at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2024. The company’s “Anggrek Dewata” project, aimed at empowering the Air Talas community with the knowledge and resources needed to lead fulfilling and dignified lives, was honored with the Social Empowerment Award at the awards ceremony.
Recognizing its role in supporting local communities and fulfilling its corporate social responsibility through natural resource exploration, PT Pertamina EP Limau Field focused its attention on Air Talas Village, which is located near the company’s operation land. The village’s main livelihood is orange cultivation, which is not just a source of income but also part of their identity. Unfortunately, this village’s culture and livelihood have been threatened by Citrus Vein Phloem Degeneration (CVPD), a disease spread by fleas. To combat these challenges, the company has introduced an innovative solution of replacing chemical fertilizers with food waste-based fertilizers that use “Trichoderma Sp.”.
The village’s orange cultivation process has effectively increased its productivity and revitalized degraded soil from chemical fertilizer use. Trichoderma application boosted yields to 5 tons per hectare from the previous 3 tons per hectare; raising farmer income from Rp 13,230,000 ($840), which is below the minimum wage to Rp 45,000,000 ($2,857) annually; reducing chemical fertilizer expenses by 71%. These changes have not only increased orange fruit cultivation but empowered women by providing them with jobs, contributing to the alleviation of poverty among the families in Air Talas Village by 28%.
