Sarawak Energy’s social efforts through the development of the Baleh Hydroelectric Project (HEP) have been recognized as a successful initiative that preserves the sustainable culture and heritage of the indigenous Iban and Kenyah communities in the region, earning recognition under the Social Empowerment category. In addition, the company’s commitment to improving health access for the Baleh and Kapit communities led to an award in the Health Promotion category.
Sarawak Energy’s social empowerment initiatives, especially in Baleh, are integrated into its operations, reflecting a steadfast commitment to sustainable development and community engagement. These initiatives include the ‘Pesta Main Adat Asal’ (Indigenous Games Festival), the Handicraft Development Programme, and the documentation of cultural heritage sites to promote indigenous games, culture, and arts. Besides that, youth engagement ensures the continuity of indigenous knowledge and cultural practices, empowering future leaders to shape their community through heritage and sustainability activities.
Concurrently, the company’s health promotion achievements included donations of medical equipment, such as ultrasound, dialysis, and RT-PCR machines to rural hospitals and clinics to enhance healthcare services in Kapit and Baleh.
