In pursuit of sustainable business operations, Microchip Technology (Thailand) Co.,Ltd. (Microchip Technology) has carried out its “Renewable Energy For The Future” initiative. The path to true, impactful change begins with an enterprise’s corporate identity; this initiative sets out to reduce the company’s greenhouse gases to Net Zero by 2040. This initiative is also an award winner of the Green Leadership category at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2024, organized by leading regional NGO, Enterprise Asia.
The company’s management focuses on the use of renewable and clean energy to replace the use of electricity from fossil fuels to reduce greenhouse gases. Microchip Technology has installed a floating solar system with a capacity of 3.8 MW (DC) that replaces the electricity consumption from the Electricity Generating Authority up to 16% of the operation.
Under the “Renewable Energy For The Future” initiative, Microchip Technology brings Smart Farms with solar power technology to Intellectual Disability Schools in the local Thai community. The company believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to a sustainable future. By empowering intellectual disability schools with Smart Farm technology, the project is fostering a more inclusive and environmentally conscious tomorrow.
As a part of the initiative’s achievements, by supporting the use of solar cell systems in the agriculture Smart Farms, schools in the community can reduce electricity usage by 12,000 kWh/year and save the cost of purchasing vegetables as food ingredients for students by consuming vegetable products from Smart Farms.
