Bolloré Logistics Singapore Pte Ltd (Bolloré Logistics) was among the recipients who were conferred with the Green Leadership, Investment in People, and Circular Economy Leadership Awards. Bolloré Logistics is a world leader in transport and international logistics with a network spread over 146 countries, including partners in 83 countries. The firm has gained a reputation for its competences, providing customized solutions with added value for its clients.
For its Green Leadership Award, Bolloré Logistics’ goal is to reduce the environmental impacts of all its freight and logistics services while helping its customers to reduce their supply chain impacts. The company’s global CSR program is built upon 4 pillars, one of which is to co-design a sustainable supply chain solution with its partners.
The company has 6 quantitative targets to achieve. These targets cover emission reductions, increased recycling rates, and waste reduction. For this award, Bolloré Logistics chose to highlight its overall progress in sustainability transformation, rather than focusing on a specific project. This transformation started in 2018 and is now accelerating year after year by including all its employees working in different departments of Bolloré Singapore.
In 2022, Bolloré Logistics’ achievements include the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 21% between 2017 to 2022; the reduction of 30% (relative to 2019) of the company’s CO2 emissions generated by the execution of transport services; the recycling rate which increased by 82% in 2022; the waste volume has been reduced by 8% since 2020; the reduction of consumables CO2 emissions by 6.5% since 2020; the decrease of water consumption by 8.5% since 2020. Besides that, over 1,400 of the company’s employees were made aware of sustainability topics, among which more than 88% received formal training.
For its Investment in People Award, the “Happiness@Bolloré” program was launched to reach out to employees through different areas of welfare. In December 2022, five main pillars of wellness were introduced – Financial, Purpose, Physical Health, Psychological, and Emotional/Social, as part of the program.
The attrition rates of Bolloré Logistics declined from 17% in 2021, to 15.6% in 2022. This can possibly indicate that employees are satisfied with the company and is a testament to the effectiveness of the initiatives that are a part of its employee engagement efforts. The company takes a holistic approach to ensure that its employees’ needs are met in various aspects to boost employee morale.
For its Circular Economy Leadership Award, the company’s global CSR program is built upon 4 pillars, one of which is to co-design a sustainable supply chain solution with its partners. Bolloré Logistics’ goal is to reduce the environmental impacts of all its freight and logistic services while helping its customers to reduce their supply chain impacts.
As the company is willing to contribute to a circular economy and has defined quantitative targets linked to it, Bolloré Logistics launched several initiatives in different areas. These include a project to deploy the 4Rs methodology in all its operations to Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle its consumables and a project to set up the wood recycling and upcycling program. There was also a project to partner with a biofuel vendor to reduce its truck emissions by 18%, a project that launched a recycling service for end-of-life products, and a project that launched an audit framework for its waste collection and recycling vendors.
While there are targets set to be achieved by 2025, as of 2022, Bolloré Logistics has already made considerable progress in reaching its targets. These include an increase in the recycling rate to 82% in 2022, a reduction in the company’s waste volume by 8% since 2020, and a reduction in consumable CO2 emissions by 6.5% since 2020.
The company has so far diverted nearly 2000 tons of materials away from incineration. This has yielded an estimated 810 tons of savings in equivalent carbon dioxide emissions. As compared to the baseline scenario of incineration, which is comparable to the carbon sequestered by about 13,000 trees over a 10-year period.
Besides that, from a situation of 1 truck in 2018 for one customer, the company now has almost 10 trucks using a biofuel solution for 4 customers and it expects more to join this initiative in 2023.
