Bosch Expands Global Charging Network to Over One Million Stations

Charging an electric car quickly, conveniently, and anywhere remains a challenge for many drivers worldwide. Along with concerns about range and costs, charging infrastructure is one of the top issues for car owners, as highlighted by a study from the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW).

Bosch aims to address this with its proprietary platform, setting a new milestone by offering access to over one million charging stations across four continents. This achievement makes Bosch’s network one of the largest globally. “Bosch’s goal is to make charging stations widely accessible and eliminate the confusion caused by multiple charging apps,” said Marco Zehe, president of Bosch’s Electrified Motion division.

Bosch’s charging services are accessible through a smartphone app, and the company also offers these solutions to vehicle manufacturers and businesses. These services can be seamlessly integrated into a manufacturer’s branding and infotainment system, ensuring a consistent and user-friendly experience.

Charging and payment can be done in just a few clicks, with complete cost transparency. Currently, the network includes around 800,000 charging stations in Europe, 130,000 in North America, and by the end of 2024, approximately 200,000 across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, with the number continually growing.

“By consolidating over one million charging stations into a single platform, we’re making it much easier for electric car drivers to find and use them worldwide, making electromobility increasingly practical for everyday use,” Zehe added.

With the electric vehicle market expected to surge, Bosch anticipates that by 2030, one in three newly registered vehicles globally will be purely electric, increasing to one in two by 2035. “We foresee significant growth in the charging services sector this decade.

“As the number of electric vehicles rises, so does the need for comprehensive and easy-to-use charging solutions, which is promising for our business,” Zehe said. By the decade’s end, Bosch expects its charging solutions business to grow by more than 50 percent annually.
