The AREA serves as a badge of excellence to spur further innovation and best-practice sharing for sharing about the organization and the world at large.

Coretronic Corporation (Coretronic) was among the recipients who were conferred with the Social Empowerment and Corporate Governance Awards. Coretronic was established in Hsinchu Science Park on June 30, 1992. It has positioned itself as an innovative display solution provider. With its core technology, the company is currently the No. 1 DLP projector manufacturer and is the world leader in the development and manufacturing of backlight modules and related display products.

For its Social Empowerment Award, Coretronic has been devoted to providing the education market with its visual solutions for a long time. In 2016, Coretronic launched the “Light Pioneer” project, which sequentially implemented stages titled “High-tech Adventure”, “Digital Interactive Classroom”, “Future Light Camp 1.0” and “Future Light Camp 2.0” at rural elementary schools in Miaoli County.

By leveraging its core products and collaborating with local universities and customers, the project aims to bridge the digital divide and educational inequality caused by urban-rural disparities. Coretronic strives to balance the programming education resources in rural areas, inspire children’s interests in programming learning, teach them critical thinking and reasoning skills, and enhance their logical abilities.

By the end of 2022, Coretronic invited 30 rural schools to join “High-Tech Adventure”, built 31 Digital Interactive Classrooms, and held 16 “Future Light Camps 1.0 and 2.0”. The company has also invested over NTD5.6 million while 992 volunteers spent 6,898 hours helping 3,320 rural students and teachers in 33 rural schools to accomplish this project. The company was also able to help the local university win a subsidy of NTD1.565 million for the 3rd consecutive year from the Ministry of Education for the USR Hub Promotion.

For its Corporate Governance Award, Coretronic places a strong emphasis on the quality and transparency of information disclosure to pursue sustainable development and ensure the rights and interests of shareholders. The company has established a comprehensive structure, implemented a policy to ensure board diversity, and regularly conducts internal and external performance assessments of the Board of Directors to enhance its operational supervision and risk management.

Coretronic has been publishing its annual ESG reports since 2008 following the latest GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines and obtained third-party assurance statements. The content and structure of the 2021 ESG Report followed the Core Option of the GRI Standards, adopted the sustainability indicators of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and obtained the assurance statement of AA1000 Assurance Standard Type 2 High Level.

There have also been efforts to implement a policy for board diversity to ensure more holistic decision-making that considers multiple perspectives, there are currently 7 directors (including 1 female and 2 male independent directors) who come from different fields.

In the future, Coretronic will invite its clients to replicate the “Light Pioneer” camp and organize it in regions beyond Miaoli County, expanding its social influence and benefiting more areas. The company will also continually strengthen the quality and transparency of information disclosure while conducting internal and external performance assessments of the Board of Directors. These efforts are aimed at establishing a stronger internal governance mechanism.
