China Hongqiao Group Limited has earned a prestigious recognition in the Green Leadership category at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2024 China Chapter for its visionary China Hongqiao “Green Transitioning” Capacity Relocation Project.
This transformative initiative reflects the Company’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development by relocating part of its aluminum smelting capacity from Shandong Province to Yunnan Province. By leveraging Yunnan’s abundant hydropower resources, the project replaces coal-fired power with renewable energy, marking a pivotal milestone in China Hongqiao’s pursuit of carbon neutrality.
Hongqiao’s Yunnan Wenshan Green Aluminum Innovation Industrial Park initiative stands as a model of renewable energy integration within industrial processes. The project has revolutionized the aluminum production process by fully utilizing the hydropower, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to the global transition toward low-carbon industrialization.
Additionally, the industrial park has secured partnerships with nearly 20 downstream aluminum processing and supporting enterprises, achieving 100% local conversion of molten aluminum and over 80% local processing of aluminum alloys. Beyond transforming its operations, China Hongqiao has leveraged its leadership position in the industry to inspire its value chain partners to embrace carbon reduction and adopt green, low-carbon development practices.
This endeavor exemplifies China Hongqiao’s proactive approach to environmental protection and sustainability as well as its role as a leader in the aluminum industry.
