With a basis in community building principles, Eupe Corporation Berhad (Eupe) is a champion under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting category which it won at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2024, an event organized by leading regional NGO, Enterprise Asia for its FY2023 Sustainability Report. This marks Eupe’s second win in a row for this category.
While sustainability reporting serves as a means of transparency, allowing stakeholders and the broader community to assess a company’s sustainability performance, Eupe has also utilized it to detail initiatives beyond traditional reporting standards that ultimately result in the elevated lifestyles of its buyers as well as the natural environment.
A home is the greatest investment for most and Eupe sees this as the greatest point of leverage for it to make a difference to improve how people live their lives. This is reflected in Eupe’s sustainability agenda, its Sustainability Plus strategy. This strategy combines traditional approaches to sustainability in property development with more holistic and innovative sustainability directions and principles. In particular, it targets the social impact of the company’s developments and how building design elevates the physical and mental well-being of its buyers.
The company’s corporate reporting objectives are to monitor the progress of its current sustainability objectives in the short-term, to continually expand on conventional sustainability initiatives in the medium-term, and to use its collected data to execute and monitor the impact of its social sustainability strategies in the long-term.
Some examples of sustainability activities that Eupe practices include the use of the Industrialized Building System, utilizing passive design in its high-rise buildings to promote the flow of healthy air as well as reduce air cooling use, reusing aluminum and timber frameworks, UV light for pool cleaning to reduce chlorine and smart energy-saving practices such as installing energy-efficient lighting, air conditioners, elevators, and water-saving fittings and rainwater harvesting.
Eupe’s CSR outreach programs for FY2023 consist of donations of more than RM100,000 largely due to the Building Hope Charity Bazaar that provided a platform for 17 NGOs including WWF-Malaysia and Food Bank Malaysia to sell their merchandise and raise awareness for their individual causes.
Moving forward, Eupe will incorporate GHG emissions into its future reporting and carry out pre-construction biodiversity studies as it takes its next steps into carbon accounting and reduction as well as safeguarding the species diversity in its developments.
