Eupe Corporation Berhad (Eupe) won the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Award at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2023 for its FY2022 Sustainability Report based on its Sustainability Plus strategy. Eupe was among the 30 outstanding recipients who were honored by reputable and leading regional NGO, Enterprise Asia.
The AREA serves as a badge of excellence to spur further innovation and best-practice sharing for organisations and the world at large. Eupe’s agenda is to create sustainable communities through Sustainability Plus and in particular, the company focuses on the social impact that its developments have on the lives and lifestyles of its buyers. The company believes that property developers have a unique responsibility to build homes that not only preserve and nurture the natural environment but also sustain the physical and mental well-being of residents, as well as sustain and nurture community identity and cohesion.
The company’s corporate reporting objectives are to monitor the progress of its current sustainability KPIs in the short term and to continually expand on its current sustainability initiatives with new KPIs and objectives in the medium term. In addition, Eupe uses the data acquired to execute, improve and monitor the impact of its social sustainability strategies in the longer term.
Eupe’s sustainability benchmarks and strategies are encapsulated in its Sustainability Plus strategy which is divided into two principles. The first principle, Sustainable Eco-Design ensures that every property project designed and built is embedded with the best and most innovative eco-designs, ideas, and practices that maximise the social sustainability of its projects through nurturing natural healthy living for residents and creating benefits for the surrounding community. The second principle, Building Strong Communities, recognises that sustainability in the property sector is more than just building homes and needs to be complemented by providing targeted support and investments in organisations that build wider community interaction and strong community bonds.
Some examples of Eupe’s environmental sustainability efforts include the use of the Industrialised Building System, reusable aluminum and timber frameworks, shear wall reinforced concrete frameworks, usage of smart energy-saving practices, low VOC paint and installation of resource-efficient facilities such as energy efficient lighting, air conditioners, elevators, water-saving fittings, and rainwater harvesting.
Eupe also engages its principal stakeholders, particular its buyers, through ongoing feedback and engagement as well as consults with communities impacted by its projects.
As part of Eupe’s Building Hope program, its CSR outreach programs for FY2022 consist of donations of up to RM150,000 to community development such as its food aid program and flood relief.
To further improve its sustainability performance, Eupe has set economic, environmental, and social KPIs to implement greater sustainability measures across the board.
Future measures include carbon measuring and climate change objectives for the next reporting cycle and the company is also aiming to include biodiversity assessments in its future developments and reporting.
Eupe was founded in 1986 and has since built more than 22,000 homes and become one of Malaysia’s most trusted and innovative residential developers. The company has constructed award-winning residential projects, both high-rise and landed, in Kedah and Klang Valley.
