GEODIS, a global leader in transport and logistics, is expanding in Asia with strategic investments in its capabilities and infrastructure. The company has extended its road network from Southeast Asia to China, solidifying its position in providing secure day-definite, cost-efficient, and eco-friendly solutions connecting Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and China.
The road network utilizes advanced IoT technology and equipment for secure transportation of goods for sectors like high tech, semiconductor, automotive, engineering, retail, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG). Investments have also improved service frequency and capabilities with dedicated customs brokerage and trade compliance teams at major borders to facilitate seamless goods movement. The road network integrates with air and sea ports, offering multimodal options to meet fast-paced environments and agile supply chain needs.
The network to Shenzhen will launch on August 23, 2023, and extend to Hong Kong and eventually Indonesia through an inter-modal road-sea service.
In recent years, ASEAN-China trade has grown rapidly, highlighting logistics’ importance in trade facilitation. Road freight is a fast-growing mode in ASEAN’s freight market, with Thailand and Vietnam investing in cross-border infrastructure. The road network allows GEODIS to tap into Asia Pacific’s expanding logistics sector, projected to reach US$4.5 trillion by 2029 with 5.24% growth from 2023 to 2029.
“ASEAN and China are among the world’s fastest-growing economies. Extending our Road Network to China enhances multimodal solutions and connectivity across major air hubs and seaports, offering customers flexibility and reliability. We’ve invested in security, infrastructure, and capabilities for a safe and efficient goods flow, aiming to provide a competitive advantage,” said Onno Boots, regional president and CEO of GEODIS Asia Pacific and Middle East.
To ensure security, GEODIS invested in advanced IoT security equipment for high-value shipments. The Road Network is monitored 24/7/365 by a professional command center, providing real-time visibility of shipment locations. Customers can access automated updates, including border crossings, through GEODIS’ freight management solution.
The road network features industry-first truck safety and driver assistance like brake assist, stability control, hill hold, and driver fatigue monitoring for safety.
GEODIS aims for economic, operational, and environmental performance through double-deck container loading and reduced carbon emissions using their new prime mover trucks. Last year, GEODIS added seven new Mercedes-Benz Actros prime movers with the latest security and safety technologies.
Completing the GEODIS Road Network from Singapore to China is part of the company’s ongoing investment to match customer growth in the Asia Pacific region.
