L’Oréal Taiwan was among the recipients who were conferred with the Green Leadership Award. Established in 1991, L’Oréal Taiwan is the largest cosmetic company in Taiwan, committed to providing consumers with innovative, high-quality, and safe beauty products. L’Oréal Taiwan fulfills its responsibilities as a corporate citizen through sustainable development. Establishing a corporate model that grows together with society and the environment is how L’Oréal Taiwan shows commitment to this earth.
These areas include climate change mitigation and carbon emissions reduction wherein L’Oréal Taiwan aims to achieve carbon neutrality by utilizing 100% renewable energy. The company is also working towards resource optimization, waste reduction, and plastic recycling, consequently, 9 brands and distribution channels promote the recycling of beauty product containers and encourage consumers and partners to participate to foster a circular economy.
L’Oréal Group aims to transform its water resource management by promoting the use of recycled industrial water and introducing innovative technologies. In addition to following the group’s water commitment, L’Oréal Taiwan’s other area of transformation would be biodiversity preservation. Since 2021, L’Oréal Taiwan has been collaborating with NGOs in a 3-year biodiversity program; through employee volunteer activities, L’Oréal Taiwan contributes to the positive impact on biodiversity in Taipei City.
L’Oréal Taiwan’s sustainability initiatives have achieved significant results in three key areas: green operations, resource circularity and recycling, and social welfare. In its green operations, L’Oréal Taiwan achieved 100% green electricity usage in 2021 and required suppliers to comply with eco-design guidelines.
To achieve the company’s resource circularity and recycling goals, in 2020, L’Oréal Taiwan implemented the Green Parcel model for all B2B and brand website B2C shipments. Innovative packaging materials that could reduce plastic film usage, resulting in a total carbon reduction of over 1.5 tons from 2021 to 2022. Additionally, the aforementioned “CircuLove” beauty product container recycling program has been implemented, with resource recycling bins set up in over 23 department stores and 100 Watsons stores.
In terms of social welfare, since 1997, L’Oréal Taiwan has been providing long-term employment opportunities in warehouses for mentally challenged individuals and single mothers. 177 opportunities were provided to vulnerable groups in 2022. Additionally, L’Oréal Taiwan and its brands donated products worth over NTD 35 million to non-profit organizations in 2022.
L’Oréal Taiwan plans to introduce the Gjosa salon water-saving device before 2025 and continue introducing various water-saving hair care products in 2024 to help consumers achieve water-saving benefits while using the products. L’Oréal Taiwan also remains committed to providing job opportunities for vulnerable groups, advocating for ecological initiatives to preserve biodiversity, and pursuing other related projects.
