Presented by leading regional NGO Enterprise Asia, the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2024 is the most reputable award recognition program recognizing organizational efforts in creating a culture of compassion, integrity, and being socially responsible corporate citizens.
Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) was among the recipients who were conferred awards under the Green Leadership and Investment in People categories at the AREA. The CSR projects recognized for these awards were the “Eco-Friendly Power Plants: Harmonizing with Nature for a Sustainable Future” project and the “Meticulous Training Ground for Tomorrow’s Electrical Expertise” project respectively. These efforts reflect Taipower’s commitment to balancing industrial growth with ecological preservation and to advancing the skill set of its workforce to ensure reliable power generation and maintenance.
The “Eco-Friendly Power Plants: Harmonizing with Nature for a Sustainable Future” project undertook significant initiatives to enhance the environment. One of Taipower’s key environmental initiatives is the “Power Facilities Ecological Integration Plan”. Launched to address the impact of power plants on local ecosystems, this plan aims to integrate power facility development with environmental conservation. The initiative focuses on minimizing disruption to native landscapes and species while contributing to global sustainability goals such as Net Zero and the “30 x 30” biodiversity target. The plan involves assessing potential power plants based on their ecological, social, and economic impacts, and it includes a comprehensive six-step process to enhance biodiversity and engage with local communities. Taipower has already made notable progress, investing NTD 238 million in environmental and community activities, and some power plants, receiving certification for its efforts from Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment.
In parallel with its environmental efforts, Taipower has also developed a robust training and certification program for its operational and maintenance staff through the “Meticulous Training Ground for Tomorrow’s Electrical Expertise” project. The Dalin Simulation Operation Center, a key training institution within Taipower, plays a central role in this initiative. The center provides advanced training for personnel operating and maintaining power generation units, using state-of-the-art simulators, including VR and MR systems, to replicate real operational scenarios. This training is structured into a four-phase program that covers both basic and advanced courses, focusing on technical skills and emergency response.
The training program at Dalin Simulation Operation Center aims to meet the needs of various power plants across Taiwan, with annual surveys determining the required number of certifications. Over the past three years, the center has trained 3,789 individuals, enhancing their expertise and preparing them for critical roles in power plant operations. The program’s comprehensive approach ensures that trainees not only gain theoretical knowledge but also practical experience, preparing them to handle real-world challenges effectively.
Together, these initiatives highlight Taipower’s dedication to integrating environmental sustainability with industry best practices. By advancing ecological integration in power facility development and investing in the professional growth of its staff, Taipower is setting a high standard in the energy sector.
