Health & Safety of Employees, Contractors, and Stakeholders are Cared For With Asia Cement Corporation’s “Promote the Health and Safety System and Workplace Well-being” Project

Promoting the health and wellness of stakeholders is a key pillar of Asia Cement Corporation’s business. With a clear focus on the UN SDGs, Asia Cement Corporation’s dedication is a great contribution to the community and society at large. Thus, the company presents its “Promote the Health and Safety System and Workplace Well-being” project as a winner of the Health Promotion category given at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2024, organized by leading regional NGO, Enterprise Asia.

Asia Cement Corporation (ACC) is deeply committed to ensuring the health and safety of its employees and partners as part of its broader corporate social responsibility. Recognizing the inherent risks of the cement industry, ACC has integrated occupational safety and health into its core performance metrics to create a secure working environment. The company’s commitment extends beyond its operations, as it leads initiatives like the Regional Cement Association’s Safety Partner Program, which aims to elevate industry-wide safety standards.

To align with global sustainability goals, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ACC has designed a comprehensive occupational safety and health management plan. This plan supports SDG 8.8 by protecting labor rights and promoting safe working environments for all workers, including vulnerable groups such as migrant workers and women in precarious employment. Additionally, ACC contributes to SDG 3 by offering education and training focused on safety and health.

ACC’s approach to workplace safety is structured around five strategic pillars: the full implementation of the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System, optimization of work environments to manage hazardous conditions, adoption of smart safety technologies, development of innovative safety equipment, and enhancing health and safety throughout the value chain through the Cement Association Safety Partner Program. These strategies are designed to foster a robust safety culture and improve overall safety management effectiveness.

The impact of ACC’s safety strategies has been notable. The company has set ambitious targets to reduce key safety performance indicators—Disabling Injury Frequency Rate (FR), Disabling Injury Severity Rate (SR), and Frequency-Severity Indicator (FSI)—by 20% by 2025. Historical data reveals that ACC has achieved significant success, with both FR and SR substantially lower than the industry average. Moreover, there have been no major occupational accidents over the past six years, and in 2023, the Cement Association Safety Partner Program reported substantial reductions in accident rates and improved safety metrics.

Further achievements include noise reduction initiatives and enhanced dust collection efforts. ACC’s factories have successfully reduced noise levels by 27% and particulate matter concentration by 43%, contributing to a safer and healthier work environment. These measures underscore ACC’s commitment to continuous improvement in occupational safety and health.

Looking ahead, ACC plans to sustain its focus on enhancing safety through investments in smart technologies, innovative protective equipment, and contractor safety management. The company will continue to set both medium- and long-term goals to advance its occupational safety management plan, thereby fulfilling its social responsibility and expanding its positive impact within the industry.
