A delegation led by Mr John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), will visit Kuala Lumpur from 27 to 29 July.
The delegation, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will include HKSAR government principal officials as well as over 30 business leaders representing economic development, financial services, innovation, logistics, transport and more.
The mission aims to explore collaboration and partnerships between Hong Kong and Malaysia across an array of sectors. A luncheon with Malaysian business leaders on 28 July is a highlight of the delegation’s visit to promote bilateral economic ties and enhance cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Dr Peter K N Lam, chairman of the HKTDC, said: “The HKTDC has been facilitating business opportunities between Hong Kong and the world for nearly six decades. With this delegation to Malaysia, we aim to deepen the strong bond between our two places and further strengthen the economic ties between Hong Kong and Asean countries.
“This trip will serve as a platform to exchange ideas, explore new opportunities and foster greater collaboration between businesses and governments. We believe that by working together we can achieve much success and prosperity for Hong Kong and Malaysia and the region.”
As a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China, Hong Kong plays a pivotal role as an international hub for financial trade, investment and cultural exchange. Within ASEAN, Hong Kong is the second-largest trading partner and export-import market. Malaysia ranks as Hong Kong’s second largest import market in the region, affirming its vital role to the local economy.
Leveraging its strategic location, world-class financial services, extensive network and unique platform to facilitate opportunities under the Belt and Road Initiative, Hong Kong can create powerful synergies in business and beyond, bringing immense benefits to businesses, investors and peoples across the region.
The visit of the Hong Kong delegation to Kuala Lumpur marks an important milestone to further strengthen the economic ties Hong Kong and Malaysia have built over the years, to foster greater collaboration, drive sustainable growth and unlock new opportunities.
