IGC Group Showcases its Ambition to Lead the Green Movement with its “Green Schools For Sustainable Development” Project

IGC Group has been recognized as a winner of the Green Leadership category at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2024, an event organized by the regional NGO, Enterprise Asia. Green leadership in corporations requires leaders to integrate eco-friendly strategies into business operations, such as reducing carbon footprints, implementing energy-efficient technologies, and fostering a culture of sustainability among employees and stakeholders.

The company’s award-winning “Green Schools For Sustainable Development” project outlines 4 goals to be achieved, including implementing energy efficiency management by 2030 by reducing electricity consumption by 5% and water consumption by 5% compared to 2023. It also intends to reduce its waste by 2030, specific targets include reducing waste by 5% compared to 2023 and increasing recycling by 90% (plastic waste, paper, and cartons, milk cartons).

IGC Group has also set an objective to ensure that no serious environmental pollution incidents arise. Its final goal is to make sure that 100% of students in its beneficiary schools are educated about environmental protection, and instructed on waste classification.

Among the results of this project include the fact that 100% of the wastes are collected and disposed of by competent authorities; hazardous waste is treated by the method of co-processing, for example, used cooking oil is collected and transferred to the unit tasked with purchasing, exporting, and processing into biofuel. This action meets the required environmental standards in annual environmental reports.

Alongside this, 100% of its employees and the beneficiary students have been trained and instructed on environmental protection and waste classification. IGC Group has also managed to achieve 90% reuse of 1-sided paper and 90% of the cartons are reused for educational activities. The control of energy and waste output can also help the beneficiary schools optimize costs.

Effective green leaders champion innovative solutions for resource conservation, advocate for sustainable supply chains, and engage with the community to drive positive environmental change. Through the “Green Schools For Sustainable Development” project, IGC Group has showcased its adherence to these ideals of sustainability and corporate responsibility and will be pushing forward to impact more lives in the future.
