iOS app development training programme launch for public upskilling

Complete Human Network (CHN) and the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) have collaborated to launch Swift UI Academy, a specialised training series for iOS app development at STDC.

The programme is a one-month intensive course open to the public and is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to develop a native iOS mobile app using Swift UI and XCode.

This collaboration marks the second joint project between CHN and STDC, after a 2021 collaboration to enable digital transformation in workforces and upskilling technical support for local enterprises, SMEs, and foreign direct investors.

CHN has since assisted the Selangor state government in setting up Apple Training Centres and Hubs, while STDC has provided certified and experienced trainers to deliver high-quality technical courses.

The Swift UI Academy programme is part of CHN’s larger commitment to enhancing digital literacy and empowering individuals to engage actively in Malaysia’s burgeoning digital economy. The initiative comes at a time when Malaysia has been recognised for achieving sustained economic growth, even amid global recessionary pressures.

However, experts suggest that further aggressive action in digital transformation is necessary to ensure sustainable growth for the country. This digital talent initiative comes after CHN’s MoU with Cradle Fund’s MyStartUP, launching iOS Developer Academy in 2022.

Under the programme, students will be taught by development professionals from Apple, including Apple Distinguished Educators and Apple Professional Learning Specialists. Participants will also be divided into groups to work on collaborative projects, brainstorming creative solutions to real-world problems by learning in-demand skills in the tech industry.

The programme will culminate in a live demo day where all participants will showcase their completed apps to industry professionals and potential employers. Students will also receive certificates of completion at the end of the programme.

The programme itself will be conducted at its very own training centre, establishing Southeast Asia’s first Apple Training Centre. CHN equips the facility with the latest Apple technology and oversees the management of its devices.

Teh Chai Peng, Founder and CEO of CHN, said, “As more opportunities continue to open up in the digital economy, we hope this programme will inspire more people to pursue careers in tech and app development. We’re thrilled to have partnered with STDC to mentor a diverse group of learners, and we are confident that they will be able to create truly innovative apps to meet the challenges faced by organisations in today’s digital age. This is our continuous effort in training and retaining digital talents in the country.”

Expressing his enthusiasm for the collaboration, Prof. Ir. Dr. Muhidin Arifin, Chief Operating Officer of STDC, said, “Our partnership with CHN has been instrumental in promoting our technical skills development courses and delivering them to meet the demands of the industry. We believe that our combined strengths will continue to contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce in Malaysia, and will enable the country to remain competitive in the global market. CHN has played a significant role in providing the latest technology through Device as a Service, equipping STDC with the latest technology. Over and above that, we are able to leverage CHN’s industry expertise, a very key element of success incorporated into our courses to produce employable digital talents.”

This initiative marks CHN’s broader effort to nurture and develop a local tech industry that can attract foreign investors through the effective use of globally compatible tech talent.
