Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will continue to support Bangladesh in the development of skilled human resources in the country so that Bangladesh can meet the demand for skilled manpower to be a high-income country by 2041.
This was stated by Taeyoung Kim, Country Director of KOICA Bangladesh and Bhutan office while speaking at a workshop titled “World Friends Korea Partnership Workshop” on Korea’s volunteer efforts in Bangladesh with the goal of strengthening the relationship between KOICA and its esteemed stakeholders. He also reiterated the importance of vocational training and language skills to ensure safe migration.
The purpose of this workshop was to gather every single idea from the host organisations of Korean volunteers that are indispensable for upgrading the World Friends Korea (WFK) Volunteer Programme in Bangladesh, and further strengthening the existing partnership of these two countries.
The KOICA Country Director in his welcome remarks graciously thanked the Government of Bangladesh for their tremendous support towards the WFK volunteering programme.
He informed that through WFK volunteer dispatch at TTCs, KOICA is continuously supporting the development of the skilled human resources of Bangladesh.
In this regard, Taeyoung Kim further stated that prior to the pandemic, Korea used to take a thousand workers under EPS (employment permit system) and it was 6,000 in 2022 and set to be at least 10,000 this year.
Speaking at the workshop, Md. Salah Uddin, Director, Training Operations of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) applauded KOICA volunteers’ contribution in the socioeconomic development of Bangladesh by working at technical Training Centres, Schools, Colleges, Universities, Ministries, Departments, Health Complex, Language Centre and others.
He highlighted the importance of the workshop for sharing experiences and looking forward to closer cooperation in order to improve the KOICA Volunteer Program and strengthen the friendly cooperative relationship between both countries.
KOICA has been conducting its Volunteer Programme in Bangladesh since 1993 and so far, more than 590 Volunteers have rendered their services in 158 different Government agencies e.g., technical training centres, health complexes, language centres and others.
Currently around 11 Korean volunteers are rendering their services in Bangladesh, and they have been contributing to enhancing the friendly relationship between Korea and Bangladesh through sharing their expertise and people-to-people exchange with Bangladeshi people.
