In terms of corporate social responsibility (CSR), the Mission of PPGOKA is to implement the company’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility, which adds value to each stakeholder to support the company’s growth. The population of Sidrap Village works as horticultural farmers which has a big problem with low-producing horticultural crops in the peatland area. It is caused by the high acidity of the peatland due to the local farmer’s tradition of using excessive pesticides. This causes high costs in horticultural agriculture production.

PPGOKA ran the “TAMAN Sidrap” program, a Social Empowerment program in the peatland society that develops integrated sustainable farming techniques to increase crop productivity for food security. “TAMAN Sidrap” involves 4 farmer communities in Sidrap Village with different activities in each group including horticulture, mushroom cultivation, plant nurseries, aquaculture, and agricultural food production that are integrated to increase circular economy.

“TAMAN Sidrap” has had a positive impact on the economic, social, and environmental aspects, assisting vulnerable farmers in society as a buffer-zone community of PPGOK.

This project’s achievements include an increased 33% efficiency in horticultural farming cost production, a 42% increase in productivity of agricultural commodities, a 47% increase in agricultural income, and the harvest period has also been accelerated by 7 days. There has also been a 68% decrease in fertilizer cost because compost was utilized to create agricultural waste and a 6.5 to 7 pH increase in the soil of the Horticultural Peatland. Besides that, 52 farmers became direct beneficiaries of the Vulnerable Farmers Society.

“TAMAN Sidrap” has expanded its integrated sustainability farming methods to several locations in Bontang City and East Kutai Regency by replicating activities such as horticultural farming, food plant cultivation, and mushroom cultivation. Besides that, the “TAMAN Sidrap” location is planned to become a sustainability farming center for farmer communities and an educational institution for studies.
