Sulzer Restores Vital Energy Supply in Vietnam with Advanced Rotor Repair

Sulzer Services recently collaborated with Petrovietnam Power Hatinh Company (PVP), a subsidiary of Petrovietnam Power Corporation – JSC, to perform a comprehensive rotor repair for the steam turbine generator at the 1,200 MW Vung Ang thermal power plant in Vietnam.

Leveraging regional expertise and cutting-edge technology, the project reduced repair times, lowered operational costs, and ensured reliable energy for thousands of homes and industries in Vietnam.

A sudden technical fault had disrupted operations at the Vung Ang Power Plant, necessitating immediate action to restore power. Sulzer’s regional team developed a tailored solution to repair the turbine and generator without replacing the entire system, avoiding lengthy delays, supply chain disruptions, and substantial replacement costs.

Using advanced re-engineering techniques, submerged arc welding, and qualified overhaul processes, Sulzer delivered a comprehensive restoration, saving the customer significant expenses and safeguarding their reputation.

Li Jian, Sulzer’s President for Services in APAC, emphasised the company’s customer-focused approach: “Understanding what’s important to our customers is at the heart of our service principle. We continually invest in our capabilities and draw on our expertise to meet their needs.”

Nguyen Quy Kien, Manager of the Technical Department at Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant, praised Sulzer’s contribution: “Vung Ang 1 critically supports Vietnam’s energy needs for industrial and economic growth. Sulzer’s expertise, experience, and ability to deliver within a tight timeline made them the ideal partner for this project.”
