- Sunway partners charitable organisations and local businesses to spread Deepavali festivities to six children homes across Penang and over 500 underprivileged families throughout Malaysia
Seberang Jaya, Penang, 4 November 2024 – Sunway brought Deepavali Cheer to six children homes in Penang, spreading joy and smiles to underprivileged communities through its signature #SunwayforGood Festive Cheer initiative.
The six children homes – Shan’s Children Home, Pusat Jagaan Sinar Ceria, Sunshine Cottage, Persatuan Kebajikan Shammah, Sekolah Sinar Harapan Bukit Mertajam, and Pertubuhan Penyayang Chin Yun, were treated to a memorable day of activities which included a lucky draw, henna hand painting, a clown performance, photobooth sessions, a shopping session at Sunway Carnival Mall and lunch at Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya.
In addition, each home will also receive groceries worth RM1,500 over the next two months, and each child received a school bag along with Vitamin C tablets, courtesy of Sunway Multicare Pharmacy and snacks from Sunway Lagoon. Furthermore, Sunway also partnered with POPULAR Bookstore and Padini Malaysia to ensure that each child will have new stationery and clothing for the coming year.
Sunway’s wider Deepavali Cheer initiative will positively impact over 500 families in-need across six states in Peninsular Malaysia – Penang, Pahang, Perak, Selangor, Malacca and Johor. In Pahang alone, Sunway is sponsoring a Deepavali shopping spree for over 40 underprivileged children from Persatuan Kebajikan Shirdi Sai Alejandra Mandram.
Sunway is also partnering the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) and Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) to distribute at least RM77,500 worth of groceries distributed to both charitable organisations and families in-need within these states, MRC will distribute groceries to Persatuan Kebajikan Thirumular Malaysia in Selangor and families in Johor, while KSK will reach out to families in Penang, Perak and Malacca.
“Deepavali is a time for families and communities to come together. In that spirit, Sunway’s annual Deepavali Cheer strives to bring joy and smiles to thousands to children and families, just as we have done during the major festive seasons,” said Sunway Property Penang general manager Fong Choon Fuoi.
