ThaiPlastic Recycle Group Co., Ltd. Claims 2 trophies at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2024

ThaiPlastic Recycle Group Co., Ltd. (ThaiPlastic) intends to lead by example through its “Earthworm Soil Project From Industrial Sludge Towards A Sustainable Community” and “You Sort, We Recycle” initiatives by guiding organizations toward a sustainable economic model that minimizes waste and maximizes resource efficiency. These CSR projects have also claimed Circular Economy Leadership and Corporate Governance categories respectively at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2024, an award ceremony organized by leading regional NGO, Enterprise Asia.

The “Earthworm Soil Project From Industrial Sludge Towards A Sustainable Community” project aims to increase the value of sludge used as a soil compound for farmers in at least one community, creating income for the community of BHT 42,532 per household. The company also aims to reduce the costs for industrial sludge disposal to about BHT 2,880 per year. In addition, the company will be promoting and supporting the reduction of chemical usage for farmers by encouraging the use of organic fertilizers made from earthworms; farmers can reduce the usage of chemical fertilizers by 5.6 sacks per household per year, equivalent to BHT 5,040 per household per year. This will be more cost-effective and help ease the farmers’ financial burden.

Among the positive impacts this project has had on the community is that after harvesting, the plants are sent for testing for residues at the central lab. After the sediment has been certified for use, the Agricultural Production Factors Research and Development Division confirms that there is no residue in plants from Central Lab.

ThaiPlastic’s “You Sort, We Recycle” project was developed to reduce plastic bottle waste, also known as non-conforming recyclables (NCR) from the Khok Kham Community from about 5% to 0.5%. The company also aims to expand this project by rolling it out to 3 more communities nearby. The objectives of this project are to reduce the community’s 233 tons/year of greenhouse gas emissions to 1.46 tons/year and reduce the NCR value of the Khok Kham community.

By providing knowledge of how to separate plastic bottles to the Khok Kham community, the company both adds and raises the value of the supply chain through soft power. The company coordinated with the administrative organization of Khok Kham in the Samutsakhon Province to visit the community and social responsibility activities through the waste recycling bank project.

As a leading advocate for responsible business practices, ThaiPlastic has developed successful CSR projects, aiming to close the loop of materials and keep them in productive cycles for as long as possible while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions. ThaiPlastic has recognized the potential for economic growth, job creation, and environmental preservation within the circular framework, and championed its adoption as a strategic imperative for businesses and societies worldwide.
