The Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2024 Presents Trophy for Social Empowerment to Pupuk Kujang for its “Kujang Nurturing Forests, Enriching Villages” CSR Project

The Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2024 is pleased to honor Pupuk Kujang as a responsible business with sustainability in mind with an award under its Social Empowerment category. Presented by leading regional NGO Enterprise Asia, the AREA serves as a badge of excellence to spur further innovation and best-practice sharing for your organization and the world at large.

“Kujang Nurturing Forests, Enriching Villages”, also known as “Kuwatan Sadesa” is a CSR program focused on the cultivation and processing of forest resources. This program is carried out to tackle various problems including the suboptimal cultivation of coffee, honey bees, and intercropping plants. Other issues include the scarcity of some forest vegetation species, a prevalence of catastrophic diseases, and suboptimal forest product production processes.

Additionally, there are several potential areas for improvement, such as teaching farmer groups basic agricultural competence, increasing farmers’ awareness regarding forest conservation, the availability of government-owned land to be developed by groups, and the potential development of derivative forest products such as herbal products.

The goals of implementing this program include maximizing forest utilization from an economic perspective while still supporting environmental conservation. Secondly, the program intends to increase the productivity of coffee cultivation, honey bees, and their intercropping. Another objective is to optimize the production flow of forest agricultural commodities. Finally, Pupuk Kujang aims to reduce the risk of catastrophic diseases through the utilization of forest products.

By running the “Kujang Nurturing Forests, Enriching Villages” program, Pupuk Kujang’s efforts have resulted in increasing the quantities of its targeted resources. Coffee beans increased to 2 kg/tree (max); honey increased to 1.5 kg/box (max); honey food vegetation expanded by 200 trees; and the utilization of turmeric, ginger, and ginger increased to 90 kg/month.

The program has also brought forth a capacity increase that benefited communities. Pupuk Kujang successfully implemented sustainable fertilizer management for 70 individuals; initiated sustainable honey bee cultivation for 10 individuals; and trained 8 individuals to produce herbal products from forest resources.

The “Kujang Nurturing Forests, Enriching Villages” has found great success. Pupuk Kujang is dedicated to empowering underserved communities and has impressed these principles of altruism and compassion in its employees. These actions are intended to have long-term sustainability in the community by elevating the people with more equitable opportunities for future prosperity.
